Uniting with an Iron Fist, the Obama Way

Posted on August 28, 2008. Filed under: B. Hussein Obama's real record as a "reformer" |

With the addition of Joe Biden, the Obama presidential ticket is now one of the most liberal presidential campaigns ever run in the United States’ history. As many know, Obama is considered the most liberal senator in the US Senate and Joe Biden is third on that list. Obama ranks ahead of Ted Kennedy, (the number two liberal senator) who is known as the Liberal Lion. Being more liberal than Kennedy is not an easy feat and certainly does not give credence to the idea of being the non-partisan leader working to bring both parties together and bring harmony and good-will to politicians of all beliefs. It is also not easy to become the most liberal senator without catering to liberal special-interest groups. Therefore, how is Obama going to do all of this uniting? What tactics is he going to use? Hopefully the actions currently being used are not evidence of how he plans to run the country.

ABC News had a report on August 27 about one of their producers, Asa Eslocker, being roughed up and arrested on a public sidewalk in Denver while covering the Democratic National Convention. What was this reporter’s crime? He was videotaping top Democratic donors and Obama supporters entering a Denver hotel for a top-secret VIP lunch meeting. While the report does not state the Obama directed the arrest, viewing the facts in the situation shed light to the whole situation surrounding the incident. The ABC article on the arrest states, “Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention…” Why would videotaping this meeting be such a problem for the Obama Campaign? The arresting officer, apparently told Eslocker that there had been a written complaint the officer was responding to. The officer was also quoted as telling Eslocker, “You’re lucky I didn’t knock the f**k out of you.” The reaction sounds a little harsh for videotaping from a public sidewalk. Who would write a complaint about a reporter videotaping people entering a hotel from a public sidewalk?

It might stem from the fact that Obama has promised from the beginning of his campaign that he was not going to play the same old political game of taking money from lobbyists and special interests groups. However, as David Freddoso found in his book, The Case Against Barack Obama, while Obama is not taking money directly from lobbyists, he does have plenty of ex lobbyists raising money directly and lobbyists raising money from others for his campaign. Freddoso also mentions a National Review Online article that discussed a former Boeing lobbyist in Illinois named Peter Bynoe who has pledged to raise between $100,000 and $200,000 for the Obama presidential campaign. The same article also discussed Mike Baur, another former Illinois lobbyist, that pledged to raise between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama’s campaign. These are only two in a long line of special interest donors for the Obama campaign. Could it just happen that the ABC reporter was going to shed some light on a part of the Obama campaign that is supposed to stay behind the curtain? The abusive restrictions do not only protect his top donors the he had pledged he wouldn’t take money from, it also applies to anyone willfully questioning subjects the Obama campaign has made clear it does not want to discuss.

It was written in an earlier post that Obama was not happy about some recent ads discussing his relationship with known, unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers. There have been two assaults launched by the Obama campaign to quiet those still bold enough to discuss this subject publically and question Obama’s explanations. The Chicago Tribune ran an August 28 article that discusses an email the Obama campaign sent to supporters to suppress WGN-AM radio host Stanley Kurtz for his refusal to lay the Obama/Ayers story to rest. The Chicago Tribune ran the full text of the email which can be seen here, http://www.chicagotribune.com/chi-obama-wgn,0,3744149.story. The email orders the Obama Army, “Tonight, WGN radio is giving right-wing hatchet man Stanley Kurtz a forum to air his baseless, fear-mongering terrorist smears. He’s currently scheduled to spend a solid two-hour block from 9:00 to 11:00 PM pushing lies, distortions, and manipulations about Barack and University of Illinois professor William Ayers.” Obama essentially put out a technology hit on Stanley Kurtz for raising the same questions that have been raised on The Anti-Obamassiah Refuge. Instead of actually answering the questions about him and Ayers, Obama would rather saturate a radio station in order to make them silence Kurtz. This is not how a new, unifying candidate who claims to be above politics would respond to the legitimate questions raised on the issue. The Obama campaign is looking to quiet any dissenters rather than answer the questions raised. What would Kurtz have to say about the subject that would scare the Obama campaign so much? It probably relates to the University of Illinois’ decision that they actually could require the Daley Library to open the records from the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which is the multi-million dollar foundation William Ayers founded and personally selected Obama to be the first chairman. A position Obama held for eight years but still claims he only knew Ayers as an acquaintance due to living in the same neighborhood. The Obama campaign was contacted by the radio station to have someone appear on Kurtz’s show to debate his findings but that invitation was rejected. However, this did nothing to deter the email instructions sent by the Obama campaign. This only proves that Obama has no intention on debating issues, or answering questions.  Instead, he takes any steps he can to quiet anyone not on board with the campaign message and Obama image which America has been directed to adopt.

Viewing these methods used by the Obama campaign to keep negative information from being released to the public raises many new and important questions. Is this what America could expect for four years while he is in office? The ABC producer and WGN radio in Chicago are not merely two isolated incidents. As posted on August 27 on The Anti-Obamassiah Refuge, Obama’s legal counsel has been threatening action against Texas billionaire Harold Simmons and the conservative group American Issues Project along with the television stations that air their television ad that discusses Obama’s friendly and long-time relationship with Ayers.  The Obama people have even twice requested that the United States Justice Department step in to silence the Simmons and the conservative group. Ed Martin, the president of American issues Project said, “These over-the-top bullying tactics are reminiscent of the kind of censorship one would see in a Stalinist dictatorship, with the only difference being that those guys generally had to wait until they were in power to throw people who disagreed with them into jail.” What would Obama do to them if he were already in power, or had a friendly Justice Department? Would he follow through on the same means to silence anyone to question him?

Is this how Obama is going to lead the country? Is this how he will respond to criticism? Is this how an Obama presidency would propose to unite the country, by threatening those who voice dissent? Obama is supporting through his campaign emails and his legal counsel the suppression of core political speech which is protected under the First Amendment. One could only guess that if the targets were aborting babies while making the comments that Obama might feel that they have at least some constitutional rights to their actions. Senator Obama needs to face the music and support full disclosure of all of his past relations with domestic terrorists, convicted felon slumlords, and all of the other unsavory characters he has affiliated with right up until attention is was drawn to the relationship. Only then, will concerned Americans stop fighting to bring these important issues to light.

Is this really a new type of politician? Or is the Obama machine just using politics as usual in their campaign?
